FAQ
Do Poodles Shed?
Well, yes, but not like other dogs. More like you would. Unlike most dogs which have double coats, poodles have a single layer coat (no undercoat is present) composed of dense, curly fur that sheds minimally. Though not completley allergen free, generally, people with allergies can live with a poodle just fine. The little shedding that does occur usually gets caught in their coat which can lead to matting without proper grooming. During the coat change from puppy to adult hair (at age 9months to 2 years) there will be more matting and hair falling out. Brush regular!
Are Parti Poodles Pureblood AKC Poodles?
YES!!! My Ellie is an example of the infamous Parti, or Multi Colored, Poodle. Decades have been spent trying to rid the Poodle gene pool of these dramatically colored dogs. They’ve been called everything from mutts to mistakes. The fact of the matter is that these Parti, or Multi colored, Poodles have the original Poodle coat of two or more colors. These spotted patterns are nothing
new, as evidenced by art work dating back to the 1700's and before. But it is only in recent years that a few serious, reputable breeders have sought to bring the Parti back to it’s rightful position as an accepted participant in the Poodle gene pool and in the show ring.
Why not Doodle?
Done correctly unlike many poodle breeder I do not see the harm in mixing poodles with other breeds to get the best of both worlds. However, becuase of the boom of popularity in "doodles" it has become all to common for people to take advantage of the lack of regulations associated with these designer dogs. Unlike the poodle which is registerable through many reputable kennel clubs, the doodle is not. This causes many people to breed irresposibly and leads to puppy mills, and many many homeless mixed breed dogs.
What is a Royal Standard Poodle?
There are many viewpoints on the term Royal when refering to poodles. Many Breeders and owners believe that it is wrong to use these terms as they do not actually exist. This is partly true. The AKC DOES NOT recognize Royal as a sizing of a standard poodle. However, the term Royal is generally accepted as a term that refers to a larger standard poodle while moyen is a term that refers to a smaller standard poodle. The Standard according to the ACK is anything from above 15". A Royal size is debated but I generally refer to them as ranging from 25"-30" and weighs above 60 lbs. My male by these standards is considered a Royal poodle as was his father. However I am stating this only as a descrupition of his size. This is not an official recognition under AKC. As a larger poodle his puppies are more likely to be larger than is he wasn't a "royal" but be aware that I do not sell them as official royals becuase it is not an official term, but simply a reference to his size. My female is not a royal and so her puppies are just as likely to be "normal" sized.
What is a Klein/Moyen Standard Poodle?
Like the Royal standard poodle there are many viewpoints on this terminology. Also like the Royal, the AKC DOES NOT recognize this as a size of standard poodle. Moyen is the French word for the fourth size of Poodle in France, but the remainder of Europe refers to them as Kleins. The Moyen/Klein term refers to a smaller standard poodle between the sizes of miniture and standard. The Moyen sizes are generally accepted to be 15"-20" and weigh 20-30 lbs. A good website reference can be found here.
Do you offer transportation?
Door to door pet transportation and air travel is available at buyers expense. Although we prefer to meet our potential homes for our puppies we understand this is not always possible and so for the right home this service is available. I have used companies in the past and trust them with my babies.
How do the deposits before birth work?
I accept deposits before the puppies are born. Upon reciept of the deposit you are given a number. The number you get is the order in which puppies are chosen. Whoever puts a deposit first gets number 1 and gets to choose first and so on and so forth. If you know what charachteristics you would like in your puppy like, for example, a silver female, you can put a deposit down saying that's the color and sex you want and if that color and sex isn't produced or if there are not enough silver puppies for homes that want silver puppies in that litter you can either chose another puppy or opt out and get a refund or wait for my next litter. Some colors I can tell you up front I won't have from that litter while some I know I'll have it just depends on the sire and dam. So if you're set on a certain set of charachteristics the deposit only locks you in if that set is produced. Otherwise a full refund is given. If you don't know what color you want or you want to choose based on temperament alone then you just get whichever puppy you chose at your number.
How does microchipping work?
All my puppies come already microchipped. This protects the puppy if he/she ever gets lost. All vets nowadays have a scanner and any lost dog should be scanned when found. All dogs that are taken to the pound are scanned. Upon receiving your puppy all you have to do is register your microchip on Homeagain.com or any other microchip registration website and it will become active. It is a one time fee and will last the lifetime of the dog.
